Travel directions are a must-have when you’re traveling somewhere unfamiliar. Nothing prepares you for a trip better than a good set of travel directions. If you get lost or find yourself questioning if you’re going the right way, good travel directions will ensure that you get to your destination without incident.
There are several ways to get travel directions. It’s usually best to arm yourself well with city, state, and country maps before you leave for your vacation. Spend some time and highlight the areas you’ll need to be able to find quickly, such as the airport, your hotel, and any sights or attractions you’ll want to visit at your destination. If you’re taking a road trip, it’s important to outline your entire route before you turn the key in the ignition. Highlighting an alternate route is also a good idea, so you’ll be prepared for unexpected detours or road closures.
If you have a hard time finding a map, or you’re not sure that the ones you have are up-to-date, the internet comes in very handy. Simply head to MapQuest, Yahoo Maps, or Google Maps, and download and print the maps you need.
While you’re traveling, a Global Positioning System (GPS) is an essential tool for travel directions. Simply put, a GPS is a satellite data receiver that can help you navigate almost anywhere in the world. Travel directions can be downloaded, and the GPS will tell you which way to go as you’re traveling. If you get lost, you can find alternate routes to your destination. These systems range from basic and inexpensive to fancy and pricey, so you’re sure to find one that fits your style and budget.
Another great source for travel directions is your travel agent. An agent will be able to provide you with maps, brochures, and contact numbers at your destination. Likewise, the automobile club is a terrific source for maps.
While you’re at your destination, the hotel concierge can be very helpful with travel directions. Simply tell them where you want to go, and they will provide you with maps and/or written directions to help you get where you want to go with ease. Travelers information booths are also quite handy in popular tourist areas, and have loads of maps and helpful staff on hand to assist you.
Travel directions are an essential part of any trip. Make sure you’re prepared with good travel directions to avoid the stress of traveling without them!
