Marriott Hotels International is a huge corporation that owns and operates thousands of hotels worldwide. Marriott Hotels brands include Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn, Courtyard, and Renaissance Hotels, all of which offer pleasant hotel rooms in a wide range of prices, excellent customer service, and convenient amenities. Through building new, state-of-the-art hotels and purchasing existing properties, Marriott Hotels has expanded quickly and become a household name.

The first Marriott Hotel was opened in 1957 by J. Willard Marriott and his wife, Alice. The Marriotts were already running a successful string of casual diners and a catering service, among other business ventures. Marriott’s first hotel was the Twin Bridges Motor Hotel, located in Arlington, Virginia. Over the next ten years, the Marriott Corporation was formed and they purchased their first resort property.

In 1969, Marriott Hotels expanded into Acapulco, Mexico. By this time, J. Willard Marriott Jr. was brought on board and became President of the Marriott Corporation. He eventually became CEO. In 1975, they opened their first European property in Amsterdam, and two years later their sales soared to an annual $1 billion.

The 80’s continued to bring prosperity for Marriott Hotels. sadly, J. Willard Marriott Sr. passed away in 1985, but his company was thriving and, in 1989, they opened their 500th hotel. In 1993, the company split into two: Marriott Hotels International, and Host Marriott Corporation. Host Marriott handled the food industry, real estate, and retirement portions of the business, while Marriott Hotels International continues to expand.

Today, Marriott Hotels International owns and operates nearly 2,800 hotel properties in over 60 countries and territories, and brings in over $10 billion in annual revenue. They have introduced Marriott Rewards, a membership program that allows members to earn points on their bookings, which can be exchanged for hotel discounts, air miles, resort packages, or merchandise. There are currently over 20 million members across the globe.

Marriott Hotel offerings include luxury resorts in some of the most visited vacation hot spots in the world. With amenities such as health and wellness spas, fully equipped gyms, beautiful swimming pools, and some of the best hotel dining in the world, it’s easy to see how Marriott has grown to be such a success story. They even offer timeshare vacations in the US, Europe, and the Caribbean through their Marriott Vacation Club.

Whether you’re on holiday, organizing a business meeting, planning a wedding or honeymoon, or just in the mood to get away from it all for a night, Marriott Hotels International has something for everyone.
