Hyatt Hotels is a chain of mid to high priced hotels that has been in business for 50 years. Hyatt Hotels owns properties all over the world, under several different brands that they have acquired over the years. The focus at Hyatt Hotels is on exceptional service, upscale guest rooms, unique architecture, and extra touches that entice guests to return.
The Hyatt chain was born when a man named Jay Pritzker purchased the Hyatt House in Los Angeles in 1957, then an independent hotel owned by Hyatt R. Von Dehn. It is told that Pritzker was waiting at the airport to board a plane, when he heard that the hotel was for sale. He jotted his bid, $2.2 million, on a cocktail napkin, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Pritzker’s investment was a good one; the years following his first hotel acquisition saw the Hyatt brand expanding across the USA’s west coast. In 1967, the impressive Hyatt Regency Atlanta opened its doors and truly put the Hyatt name on the map. This hotel was the world’s first atrium hotel, and it opened up new possibilities in hotel architecture.
The Hyatt Regency brand is the mainstay of the chain. The first international Hyatt Regency hotel opened in Hong Kong in 1969. Each property under the Regency umbrella features innovative design, and an emphasis on functionality in both guest rooms and corporate meeting facilities. Advances in technology are implemented regularly to keep up with changing demands from business travelers.
In 1980, the Grand Hyatt and Park Hyatt brands were introduced. Grand Hyatt properties emphasize the cultural atmosphere of their locations, and cater to corporate conventions and upscale leisure travelers. The Park Hyatt hotels offer smaller properties that echo the quaint intimacy of European hotels, giving guests more privacy. These hotels also feature fine dining and 24-hour services for their guests. Each Hyatt brand also operates a number of resort properties, which all include spas, swimming pools, and additional restaurants.
Other Hyatt Hotels and Resorts brands include Hyatt Place, Hyatt Summerfield Suites (named for the Summerfield chain purchased by the Hyatt Corporation), and Century Hyatt. Many of these properties are former chain hotels, such as AmeriSuites, that have been purchased, renovated, and reopened by Hyatt.
When staying at a Hyatt Hotel, you can rely on their high quality services, amenities, guest rooms, and convention facilities. Each property reflects the culture of its location, giving every hotel a unique and sometimes exotic flavor. Hyatt Hotels and Resorts are still owned by the Pritzker family, and they continue to innovate and deliver quality products and services.
