How to Find Cheap Hotels

With your tour guide,
Anne P. Mitchell

Summary:   The key to finding cheap hotels which offer cheap hotel rates is to do some legwork, and be smart in your booking. With a little effort you can find cheap hotel rooms wherever you need them.

Finding a cheap hotel for your trip or vacation might take a bit of work, but consider it time well spent. The payoff for your time and effort comes in the enormous savings you’ll enjoy when you book your hotel. The money you save on a hotel room is much better spent on the fun aspects of your holiday, like sight-seeing, dining, and enjoying other activities at your destination.

When searching for cheap hotels, there are two different ways to save money on your lodging. The first is to find a hotel room at a deeply discounted rate, and the second is to find a room at an establishment that specializes in discount hotel rooms, often with limited services and/or amenities.

To find discounts on regularly priced rooms, inquire at your automobile club, or any other organization you might belong to. Military groups, religious organizations, clubs or groups related to your career, and even some sports clubs have negotiated deals with hotel chains to offer discounted rates when you book a stay at one of their locations. Another way to find really good deals on hotel rooms is to book your holiday in the off season, when bookings are slower and rates are discounted to encourage more travelers to visit.

To find an inexpensive room at a discount hotel, first visit a travel agent to see what they can suggest. You’ll get an idea of what the average rates are like, and a travel agent can recommend an appropriate location to suit your needs. Before you book with a travel agent, however, get online and search for prices at various travel sites. Compare prices and be sure to check that the room you want is available when you want it. It can also be advantageous to call the hotel directly and ask if any discounts are available. When booking a discount hotel, you’ll be asked for your credit card number to hold the room, and given a cancellation window, after which you will be charged a small fee even if you cancel your booking.

Cheap hotels can really make a difference in your travel budget. Why pay extra for a place to stay when you’ll hardly be spending any time there? It makes much more sense to put in a bit of effort to get the best deal you possibly can, and keep your travel money for other things.
