Hampton Inn hotels and their sister locations, Hampton Inns and Suites, are a chain of mid-priced hotels owned and operated by the Hilton Hotels Corporation. Hampton Inn hotels can be found around the world, mostly in major cities and tourist areas.

The very first Hampton Inn hotel opened in 1984, in Memphis, Tennessee. This hotel set some standards for future Hampton properties, including the two story design and the stucco exterior, as well as their offering of complimentary breakfast for every guest. The hotel featured 128 guest rooms and operated as a Hampton Inn until 1995, when it became a Ramada property.

The Hampton Inn hotel chain expanded quickly, building new properties and purchasing existing hotels to remodel and reopen them. When the chain was still under it’s own operation, each hotel was customized to reflect the designs and atmosphere of the city where is was located.

The Hampton name and hotels were purchased in 1999 by the Hilton Hotels Corporation for almost four million dollars. Additional properties were added to the chain, and standards in decor and food service offerings were implemented. This served to create a reliable level of services and amenities so that guests would know what to expect from each different location.

A major campaign was launched in 2004, called “Make it Hampton”. Each hotel was upgraded and improved, with several additions and features added to each guest room. The major selling point of this campaign was highlighted with the tagline “Cloud Nine”, and features upgraded mattresses, pillows, and sheets in every single guest room. This campaign continues even now, enticing potential guests with the promise of a better night’s sleep.

The Hampton Inn hotels website, which is part of the Hilton Hotels site, has also undergone many changes. Visitors can now keep a list of their favorite properties, book online, and plan accommodations for large groups such as weddings, family reunions, and sports teams on the road. You can sign up for their e-mail newsletter and keep up to date on news and upgrades. Guests of Hampton Inns hotels can also use and receive Hilton Hotels rewards points, called Hilton HHonors, when they stay at a Hampton property.

Hampton Inn hotels now owns over 1,200 properties globally, with a high concentration of hotels in the busiest North American cities. Check them out online, or ask your travel agent about availability and making reservations.
