Golf Vacations: Take a Golf School Vacation!

With your tour guide,
Anne P. Mitchell

Summary:   Golf vacations can be about more than just the ideal green, and golf, golf, golf! Golf vacations can also be about perfecting your swing with an expert at your side! If this sounds great to you, consider a golf school vacation!

When considering golf vacations, if you’re looking to truly perfect your swing, a golf school vacation might be just what you need! Golf vacation schools come in all shapes and sizes, to fit any need and budget. For that reason, it’s important to do your homework before committing to anything.

Many golf school vacations offer what’s known as “stay and play” packages, which include a special discount that applies to hotel rooms if booked at the same time as the greens are booked and fees paid. These lower prices do come with some restrictions (such as particular playing times, shared rooms, etc.), so be sure to confirm everything beforehand. Expect to spend about $1000 or more for a typical week-long golf school vacation, not including airfare.

One of the main decisions you’ll need to make when choosing a golf school vacation is location. This is especially important if you’re traveling with family members who are non-golfers - you’ll want to choose a setting with lots of activities nearby, so your companions will have something to do while you’re golfing.

Another important question to ask yourself is the level of involvement you’re looking for in terms of your golfing - do you want an all-inclusive getaway that requires your full dedication to the game, both physically and mentally, or would you rather have some free time to enjoy the surroundings? Many of the most popular golf destinations in the US are situated in touristy areas, including Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach. In this case, you may want to choose a school that offers half-day instruction, so you can enjoy the rest of the day on your own.

Another thing of which to be aware when booking a golf school vacation is what is included? Don’t assume that all packages will incorporate meals and lodging. And if they don’t, you need to make sure that there are affordable hotels nearby. In terms of what is included, at a minimum you should insist on daily classes and at least one round of golf per day (and use of a cart should be included). Who are the instructors and what qualifications do they have? Local instructors may have a better grasp of the course, for example. How will you get to the golf course? Does the package offer transportation or will you have to provide your own transportation to the course? What’s the class size? A 5:1 ratio may be ideal for beginner golfers who need general instruction, however experienced golfers may need more individualized attention to correct specific problems. Who will be in the class with you? The best golf packages team up people of the same age and skill level.

As you can see, there are a lot of factors to consider, and so when planning a golf school vacation, begin planning as early as possible and do your research. Picking the right golf school package is the key to a satisfying and productive golf school getaway.
