Boston hotels are a study in contrasts between traditional and contemporary. Hotels here range from historic buildings converted to guest rooms, to sleek and modern structures that cater to the tech-savvy business traveler. Whether you’re seeking quaint lodgings or something more on the cutting edge, you’ll find a wide variety to choose from with Boston hotels.
One of the most interesting hotels in Boston is the Bullfinch Hotel. Located in the heart of the city, the Bullfinch is unique due to the triangular shape of the building itself. Referred to as the “Bullfinch Triangle, this hotel features nine stories and 80 guest rooms, complimentary internet access, and a fitness center.
The Harborside Inn opened in 1997 as a hotel, but was originally a mercantile structure designed by Gridley James Fox Bryant in the 19th century. Hardwood floors and brick walls adorn the structure, and guests can see parts of the original architecture despite extensive renovations. The Harborside Inn is impressive to look at, yet the room rates are extremely reasonable. Each guest room contains a sleigh bed and warm Oriental rugs, giving it a cozy atmosphere.
The Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro is located in an historic, upscale neighborhood. Consisting of two townhouses that were built in the 1800’s, the Beacon Hill Hotel has been redesigned and updated to feature 12 guest rooms and one suite, each with its own individual décor. The Bistro offers authentic French cuisine every evening, and is also open for breakfast and lunch when you’ll find a more American-style menu.
The Ritz-Carlton owns two properties in Boston, and they are located across from each other on either side of Boston Common. The original Ritz-Carlton Boston hotel opened in 1927, and has been recently renovated to update the guest rooms and facilities. The Ritz-Carlton Boston Common is sleek and shiny, and very contemporary. This newer hotel features a colossal fitness center called The Sports Club/LA, that contains a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool and almost every gym amenity you could imagine.
Nine Zero is another new luxury hotel in Boston, located near Logan Airport. The décor is a mishmash of old and new, with wood and brick highlighted by gleaming metals and glass. Convention and meeting facilities boast excellent views of the city, and the Spire restaurant at Nine Zero has won many awards for its innovative cuisine.
Whether you enjoy the historic architecture and atmosphere of older Boston hotels, or you prefer the modern designs and amenities of the new ones, Boston is a place where history meets the present to offer a truly unique experience to each and every guest.
