Denali National Park features the highest peak in North America, Mount McKinley. Visitors can hike r mountain bike here, or choose to spend a month backpacking up the mountain. The breathtaking view from the top of the peak and the bragging rights on completion are absolutely worth it! There are other, smaller mountains here as well, and each offers a variety of activities such as climbing, biking, fishing, kayaking, and camping.
The wildlife in Alaska is not to be missed. You’ll find sea otters, puffins, whales, bears, moose, and bald eagles, just to name a few! Whale watching is a very popular activity, and once you see these graceful creatures in their natural habitat, you’ll understand why. Ecotourism is bringing people and nature back in tune with each other, and Alaska offers many connections with all nature has to offer.
In Fairbanks, Alaska, you can discover the history of gold mining and tour working mines. You can even try your hand at panning for gold yourself. Or try the Riverboat Discovery Tour, where captains will take you out on the water to see the beauty of the area, and make a stop at a traditional Indian village.
Cruising is a great way to explore the state of Alaska, and there are numerous types and durations of cruises available. Glacier cruises show off the best of the scenery and wildlife, and you’ll have the opportunity to watch whales and sea lions while marveling at the beauty of the glaciers themselves.
Air tours, dubbed “Flightseeing”, are also widely available in Alaska. Take a guided tour by air over Mount McKinley, and view the area from a much different perspective. You’ll see bears, moose, and sheep from above, and even land on a glacier.
Accommodations in Alaska range from traditional hotels to wilderness lodges. There are many quaint and cozy bed and breakfasts to be found here as well. You’ll find wonderful restaurants that serve traditional Alaskan food, including lots of seafood and comfort foods.
